Frequently Asked Questions
Does BolaWrap only work if the subject is standing still?
No. BolaWrap 150 is effective on moving subjects, including those walking away or in foot pursuits. The device can stop movement and restrict mobility even when subjects are in motion. Even loose wraps tend to trip individuals or distract them while they try to untangle themselves, creating the critical window for officers to gain control.
What's the difference between the subscription packages and traditional purchasing?
WrapBasic uses traditional à la carte pricing—you own equipment outright but pay separately for training, cassettes, and support. WrapReady and WrapPlus are subscription models that include predictable monthly costs covering device, training, cassettes, and support. WrapReady saves departments $988 per officer versus WrapBasic while providing comprehensive training and guaranteed cassette pricing.
How much training is required, and what does it cost?
Initial Training: 4-5 hour end-user course with 2-4 cassette deployments recommended. Instructor Training: 7-hour course costs $389 including required cassettes. Ongoing: Annual recertification with 1 cassette deployment. With WrapReady and WrapPlus packages, comprehensive WrapTactics training is included with 24/7 access to modules, scenarios, and certification tracking.
What's the success rate and how do you measure effectiveness?
Success isn't just about perfect wraps. BolaWrap deployment is considered successful when it helps officers gain control without significant injury—whether through tight wrap, loose wrap, distraction, or even just the display of the device. Success occurs whenever an officer places an individual into custody as a result of deployment, including psychological deterrence from the laser sight or sound.
What's the effective range and deployment specifications?
Range: 10-25 feet effective range, with 15-20 feet optimal. Space needed: Approximately 3 feet around subject. Conditions: Wind, rain, or snow don't affect deployment due to high velocity (400fps initial). Sound level: 156db deployment sound. Target zones: Mid-thigh to knee area recommended for walking subjects; avoid above elbows.
Is there risk of injury, and how is the device removed?
Injury risk exists with any tool but is minimized through proper training. The anchors are designed with safety caps to lower skin penetration risk. The Kevlar cord won't constrict around the neck. Removal: Use medical shears, seatbelt cutter, or the integrated anchor removal tool from the cassette shipping cover once the situation is controlled.
How many agencies use BolaWrap and what's the track record?
Over 1,000 agencies worldwide trust BolaWrap 150, with devices deployed in 59+ countries. 4,000+ officers have been trained as certified instructors. Zero injury reports across documented deployments—an unmatched safety record compared to pain-based compliance tools. Multiple departments are now decommissioning Taser programs in favor of BolaWrap’s non-lethal approach.
