Loveland Police Use BolaWrap to End Pursuit Safely and Without Injury
As police departments across the country seek safer, smarter ways to manage encounters, the Loveland Police Department in Colorado is among an increasing number of agencies adopting the BolaWrap® 150, a non-lethal device created to help officers gain control during the pre-escalation phase.
"Another successful deployment of an amazing tool," said Chris Padgett, Public Information Officer for the Loveland Police Department. "The BolaWrap once again assisted our officers with a fleeing subject. With minimal force, this subject was apprehended safely."
Footage shared by Loveland Police shows the moment officers deployed the handheld BolaWrap® 150, which uses a small cartridge to launch a Kevlar tether that wraps around a person's legs or torso from a distance of ten to 25 feet. The device does not rely on pain or electrical charge. Instead, it uses sight, sound, and a tactile sensation to create a multi-sensory cognitive effect that gives officers crucial time to gain control during the pre-escalation period.
Once deployed, the subject immediately surrendered, complying with officer commands and being arrested without further resistance or escalation.
Loveland PD's deployment demonstrates how agencies that use the non-lethal BolaWrap® 150 can effectively bridge the gap between verbal commands and non-compliance, without needing to resort to higher levels of force. Departments across the country, from California to Florida, have adopted the BolaWrap® 150 as part of a broader commitment to public safety innovation and officer training focused on non-lethal pre-escalation measures, avoiding unpredictable or unreliable pain-based compliance tactics.
From Loveland to law enforcement agencies around the world, Wrap's mission is clear: safer outcomes for officers; safer outcomes for the community.
The future of law enforcement is pre-escalation. Don't let your agency fall behind in adopting the tools and tactics that save lives, reduce injuries, preserve careers, and minimize liability exposure.
