Madison County Sheriff's Office (KY) Embraces Wrap Reality™ to Advance Officer Training
"The Wrap Reality VR has allowed our deputies to replicate high-stress decision-making in a safe, teachable environment. It will save lives. Bottom line." — Major Tony Terry, Madison County Sheriff's Office
As one of only 12 accredited agencies in Kentucky, Madison County's adoption of Wrap Reality™ demonstrates a proactive investment in preparedness, safety, and transparency for both its deputies and the community it serves.
A New Standard in Immersive Learning
Wrap Reality™ allows law enforcement officers to train for various situations, from mental health crises and domestic disputes to active threats, without the risks or logistical issues of traditional role-playing exercises. Deputies use actual training tools like a simulated firearm or Taser while navigating virtual environments that mimic real-world encounters.
Major Tony Terry, a veteran officer with more than two decades of service, said the system has already transformed the way his team approaches training.
“They are excited to use the technology, and it's allowed our agency to provide and document pre-escalation techniques, duty to intervene, and tactical skills that are immeasurable when the real situation arises," said Maj. Terry.
He added that the platform's immersive quality is unlike anything the department has experienced before.
“It’s so lifelike I actually fell and hit the floor when I went to use my car as a barricade,” Maj. Terry said. “It wasn’t really there, but the experience felt incredibly authentic. That kind of immersion is invaluable.”
Bridging the Gap Between Officers and Community
For Madison County, the use of Wrap Reality™ extends beyond internal training. The department has used the technology to enhance its Citizens Police Academy, allowing community members to experience firsthand the split-second decisions law enforcement officers must make in fast-paced, high-stress situations.
“The immersive training can provide the realism that is necessary for citizens to understand the dangers and difficulties law enforcement encounters every day,” Maj. Terry said. “It’s been great for our agency to help educate and bridge the gap with our citizens' police academy.”
He added that the system also supports traditional training fundamentals.
“It’s an integral way for our trainers to focus on the fundamentals of marksmanship and range skills in a controlled environment.”
Real-Time Feedback. Real-World Impact.
The Wrap Reality™ platform offers real-time performance analytics, enabling officers and instructors to review each scenario from different perspectives. Trainers can evaluate communication, response times, and decision-making to identify areas for improvement, making the learning process both measurable and repeatable.
For the Madison County Sheriff's Office, that means training that's not just efficient but transformative.
A New Chapter in Law Enforcement Preparedness
Departments like the Madison County Sheriff's Office are ahead of the curve in using technology for training and are pioneering new approaches in public safety training.
"What Madison County is doing with Wrap Reality™ represents the future of law enforcement education," said Vic Pratt, Media and Communications Manager at Wrap. "By pairing immersive technology with professional training standards, agencies can give officers the skills and confidence they need to handle high-stress encounters safely and effectively. This kind of preparation doesn't just make better officers, it builds safer communities."
Building a Safer Future
For Maj. Terry, the bottom line is clear.
“Thank you for the opportunity to use this great, innovative way of training,” he said. “It will save lives. Bottom line.”
As more agencies across the country adopt Wrap Reality™, the Madison County Sheriff's Office demonstrates how technology can add both realism and humanity to modern policing, turning training rooms into safe, controlled environments where officers get ready for the unpredictable.
